About Toko'i Victory Life Church
The church Toko'i, which means 'lamp', is located west of Shiprock, sitting on the open desert. The pastor's home sits nearby. In the summer of 2004, a group got together and funded and helped with the construction of a floor for a new building. A group came the next year to begin building the church on the cement pad, and another group finished it.
The original church building is a very small shed, with a big red cross painted on the front.
Construction of the building began on a Thursday, and by the next Wednesday, they had their first service inside to dedicate the building. The church building was funded and constructed by Neil Reed's and Al Womack's Missions Teams.
Several denominations were involved in it's building, a wonderful example and result of unity within the body of Christ.
A ministry team from Ninthour World Discipleship ministered to the people at Rattlesnake, and helped prep the area for the coming contsruction workers.
At the Dedication Service, Pastor Herman Harrison spoke of his vision for Rattlesnake. It all began when he was called to preach in the area. He began having services in his home, using the living room for the service, and bedrooms for classrooms. The furniture was stored outside.
They began praying for a building they could have services in. Soon, a neighbor offered to let them use her garage, but it was in need of repair. They put a cement floor in it, sturdied it up, and closed off the front. They painted a big red cross on the front.
But Herman knew that was not the end of the story. They continued praying for an actual church building.
There was no way for them to afford a new building. They had nothing. Tithes were limited to a few dollars a week. But, in faith, they believed that God would provide.
Herman said that little garage was a 'very humble place'.
Now, they have their new church. God provided the miracle they had been praying for. But Herman knows that is still not the end of the story. His vision includes a dormatory to house homeless and wayward young men, whom his son plans to disciple. Already there are several young men staying there being discipled. And more will come.
