On Christmas Day, a number of people set aside their Christmas Celebration for a few hours, and gather together at Shiprock. Tables are set up, hot food is prepared, along with sandwiches, hot coffee, and bags of candy, apples and oranges, and peanuts. Bags containing hats, gloves, space blankets, winter shirts, and coats, and the plan of salvation are handed out. In 2007,a group of people also brought out racks of good quality clothing.
It is always a very cold day, but people begin gathering, watching us setting up, wondering what we were going to 'sell'. When we are all ready, we wave them over, and surprise them all with free food and gifts.
Dozens of people are served and ministered to. The homeless are provided with the coats and other winter items, as well as hot food.
This is a joint effort involving CPRM, Twice Blessed Resource Center, members of Four Corners Community Church, the Methodist Church of Shiprock, World Harvest Center, and many others. |
